The Atherton Arts Foundation, represented at the meeting by Dorothy, announced plans for a veteran art show at Jennings/Palmer Park over a November weekend. The event will include a Friday-night benefit for Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA), a free Saturday art show open to the public, a Saturday morning veterans’ meetup and family activities such as kids’ art projects and demonstrations.

Organizer Dorothy said at least a half dozen veteran artists had confirmed and additional community artists and family members of veterans will participate. The Friday benefit is expected to include speakers and film previews; a noted veteran-author and filmmaker, Tobias Wolf, is scheduled to appear. The organizer said the foundation is underwriting art-supply costs and that proceeds from the benefit will go to IAVA. The event also plans to include antique military vehicles and demonstrations, though organizers noted participation from military units could be constrained by broader operational restrictions.

The Arts Foundation asked the town to continue providing the Jennings venue at no charge, as it has done previously; staff and committee members expressed support and encouraged promotion to local veterans and families.
