Several public-health partners and county staff gave updates to the Los Alamos County Health Council on outreach events and services this fall.

Brandy, program manager for the Los Alamos Community Foundation and LAUNCH (Los Alamos Uniting for Community Health), described upcoming mental-health events: a fundraiser concert for LAUNCH by Coro de Cámara on Oct. 16 at Duane Smith Auditorium (free admission; donations welcome) and a community “Paint the Tunnel” event for mental-health awareness on Oct. 9 from 4–6 p.m. She invited health-council coordination and offered to circulate flyers.

Stephanie from the Aging and Disability Resource Center announced fall Medicare open enrollment assistance: one-on-one help at the Los Alamos Betty Earhart Senior Center on Oct. 15 and at the White Rock Senior Center on Oct. 17; both sessions run 10 a.m.–3 p.m. She said sign-ups are available through the White Rock site coordinator.

Crystal Archuleta, health-promotion specialist, summarized public-awareness and material distribution for several programs: the safe-sleep program (cribette distribution coordination), alcohol-and-cancer risk informational flyers and 988 crisis-line mouse pads and cards available for community distribution.

Joyce Richards, who organized a recent drive-through influenza clinic, said the event ran a short shift and distributed all vaccine doses on hand; she reported the clinic administered 460 flu shots (compared with 408 given in a four-hour clinic the previous year) and said another drive-through clinic was planned for Oct. 18 from 9 a.m.–noon. Richards also said the clinic added pediatric vaccinations for ages 9 and up and that organizers intend to publicize the next clinic’s flyer when finalized.

Jessica Strong (county social-services manager) confirmed she had provided health-council materials (988, opioid-overdose awareness and departmental rack cards) for distribution at community clinics and events.
