The Evansville Board of Public Works on Oct. 2 approved several municipal contracts and agreements, including CDBG-funded trail work and an affordable-housing repair contract, authorized a final change order on an ADA curb ramp project and took two bids for a new dirt barn at Oak Hill Cemetery under advisement.
Department of Metropolitan Development staff presented an Affordable Housing Trust Fund contract with ACE Construction Inc. to perform home repairs at 1614 West Dresden Street for a total contract amount of $10,930. A city staff member said the contract is for work specified in the scope of services. The board approved the contract by motion and second; the transcript records "motion passes" but does not list individual votes.
DMD staff also presented a memorandum of understanding with the Board of Park Commissioners for refurbishment of the Baird Park trail (IDIS No. 5143). The project will be funded with Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds and the contract amount listed on the agenda was $12,995. Staff said the item will next go to the Board of Park Commissioners for their approval.
The board approved a contract with Advantex Development Corporation to complete a Phase I environmental site assessment for the Vision 1505 apartment complex on North Third Avenue. The agenda lists a contract amount of $2,800; staff said the assessment will allow the project to proceed.
The board approved a change order to close out the ADA curb ramp improvements contract (Project No. 24-009) with Rivertown Construction LLC, reflecting an increase of final quantities and a balance increase of $1,245.78. The total contract amount shown in the agenda materials is $170,001.37. A city staff member described the item as a final change order to close out the project.
City engineering staff presented a set of right-of-way permit applications and recommended approval for multiple numbered applications, with compliance conditions including implementation of traffic control measures per the Indiana Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (Indiana MUTCD), Board of Public Safety approval for lane restrictions or closures, and adherence to city utility-cut repair details. One application (No. 2414) was flagged for exception because it did not involve the public right of way.
Earlier in the meeting the board authorized opening bids for Project 2025-0010 H, a dirt barn project at Oak Hill Cemetery. Later staff reported two bids received: Empire Contractors Inc. submitted a base bid of $421,400 and an alternate bid recorded in the agenda text as $360,100; Arc Construction Co. Inc. submitted a base bid of $323,500 and an alternate bid of $318,800. The board moved to take those bids under advisement.
In other routine business the board approved bills and payrolls and then adjourned. Several items were described on the agenda as funded by CDBG or the Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
