HUTTO, Texas — At the Oct. 2 council meeting a longtime resident pressed the council to address unfinished work on Live Oak Street that he said remains damaged after utilities work tied to a 2017 bond project.
Jimmy Pierce introduced himself and described what he said is ongoing damage: cut driveways, sections of road backfilled with temporary road base that washed out over years and curbs that are failing into the ditches. “So as of today, you have residents that the city damaged their driveways and has never fixed it,” Pierce said. He asked council members to personally visit Fritz Park (a nearby reference point) by walking, driving and bicycling to see the road condition and reconsider whether the road needs to be redone.
Why it matters: Pierce said the work started in 2019 when utilities were installed but the final roadway work did not follow, leaving both property damage claims and a persistent maintenance problem in the neighborhood.
What the council heard
- Pierce traced the issue to the utility work after a bond-funded project and accused the city of using a substandard road base and omitting rebar in curbs during construction, which he said led to washouts and deteriorated curbs.
- He requested council action to inspect the area and complete permanent repairs rather than leaving temporary patching.
What the transcript records: this was public comment with no immediate staff response in the same agenda item. Staff and council did not record a formal motion or corrective action on the record at the meeting; the comment was entered into the public record and councilmembers acknowledged receiving the complaint.
