The Canton City Commission voted to approve a contract for a housing study, contingent on edits recommended by the city attorney to limit city liability.
A commissioner who had reviewed the contract told the panel the agreement was generally well-prepared and detailed but contained liability provisions the city attorney needed to revise. The commissioner said the contract limited recovery in a hypothetical lawsuit to the contract price rather than the city’s actual damages and that language should be revised to satisfy the city’s insurance pool.
Commissioners also noted the study proposer plans to form a local steering committee of residents, realtors and others to shape survey questions and identify housing types to analyze. The commission asked interested community members to contact City Hall if they want to serve on that steering committee.
A motion to approve the housing-study contract with the caveat of attorney approval passed by unanimous roll call.
Vote tally (as recorded during roll call): Aye (unanimous).
