The University of Minnesota Board of Regents’ Mission Fulfillment Committee voted to approve its consent report during its October 2025 meeting, adopting routine academic actions that the committee had reviewed.
The consent report approved by motion included the academic program report (new programs, program changes and discontinued programs), conferral of tenure on seven faculty appointments, and approval of accessioning and deaccessioning policies for the Goldstein Museum of Design. Regents voted by voice to approve the report; no roll‑call tally was recorded in the committee transcript.
President Cunningham noted that two of the tenure conferrals referenced in the report involved appointments tied to Provost Gretchen Ritter and Professor Amy Fairchild, who previously held tenure at another institution; Cunningham said those recommendations were made before Provost Ritter’s arrival by interim executive leadership to avoid conflict of interest. “They were recommended by interim executive vice president and Provost Lanyon prior to the Provost’s arrival,” Cunningham said when summarizing the consent items.
Chair Ruth Johnson called for questions before the vote; none were raised and Regent Ruth Johnson moved the motion, with Regent Verhaeyn seconding. The motion was approved by voice vote.
Provost Ritter summarized consent items for the committee before the vote, saying the academic program report included a full list of program changes and that the museum policies were submitted to conform with board policy requiring museums to maintain and periodically update accessioning and deaccessioning procedures.
Also included in the committee’s docket for information were an annual report on academic program approvals and a legislatively mandated report from the veterinary diagnostic laboratory. Informational items noted in the docket included two items highlighted by the provost: the University’s rankings in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for clean water and health and well‑being, and the University of Minnesota Crookston’s reaccreditation by the Higher Learning Commission through 2035.
