The Standards and Assessment Committee approved proposed amendments to administrative rule R277-325 to clarify language about the educator exit and engagement surveys and to remove outdated references to an earlier rule.
Jennifer Wadsworth, a policy adviser, said the amendments clean up references added in August under rule R277-623 and clarify alternating-year administration of the engagement and climate surveys. Wadsworth summarized the change as removing references to an older rule and clarifying the alternating schedule.
Atiana Colley Mills, who oversees the exit and engagement surveys, explained the two instruments and their administration cadence: the exit survey is offered to educators when they leave positions during the year, while the engagement survey is administered on a biennial schedule to currently employed teachers. “The engagement survey … is administered on an even year,” Colley Mills said, noting the next administration is scheduled for winter 2026.
The committee moved, voted and passed the draft language on first reading and forwarded it to the board for final approval on second reading. The committee chair called the vote; members responded “Aye,” and the motion passed unanimously.
Why it matters: Clarifying survey language helps LEAs and school personnel understand reporting expectations and scheduling for climate and engagement instruments.
Next steps: The committee forwarded draft R277-325 to the full board for final reading and approval; staff did not report budget or survey-content changes in the meeting.
Ending: The committee adjourned after approving the rule amendment and several other items.
