Halifax Health UF Health Medical Center of Deltona officials said the hospital is expanding its emergency department and inpatient capacity and has recently added specialty services and certifications.
"Beginning this year, we will be expanding our facility to better meet the needs of our community," Ben Eby, administrator of Halifax Health UF Health Medical Center of Deltona, told the chamber audience. He said the emergency department will add 13 exam rooms and six observation rooms, bringing ED capacity to 30 beds, and that the inpatient hospital will grow from 43 beds to 90 by adding 17 new intensive‑care rooms and a new floor of 30 medical‑surgical beds.
Eby said the expansion is on a rapid timeline: "All of that's going to be done by March," and that the hospital is recruiting additional specialties. He noted recent service additions in 2024, including a medical oncology clinic and pulmonology function testing, and said the hospital has achieved bariatric center of excellence certification and primary stroke certification.
A chamber video and Eby also highlighted recognition from the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association, which the hospital received as a "Gold Plus" site for enhancing patient care with evidence‑based guidelines.
Janet Knoff, CEO of the Deltona and Greater West Volusia Chamber of Commerce, introduced the hospital remarks and said the expansion aligns with the city's goal that "West Volusia residents don't have to leave West Volusia to receive health care services."
The hospital's expansion was presented as part of the chamber's State of the City program; officials did not provide project cost or permitting details during the remarks, and the transcript did not specify which March (year) is the target completion month. Officials said they are actively recruiting specialists and expanding services to meet community needs.
Eby closed by encouraging membership in the chamber and thanking partners and the community for support.
