Weld County commissioners on Monday approved an emergency extension for County Road 26 while crews replace a failed irrigation culvert and also approved two planned temporary closures: one related to Union Pacific Railroad crossing repairs and another tied to a roadway improvement project near the town of Ault.
Amy Muchy of the county public works department told the board the County Road 26 closure began on Oct. 6 after a culvert collapsed and that crews seek to extend the closure through Oct. 24 to complete replacement work. "This closure began on October 6, as it was an emergency situation due to a culvert collapsing. The culvert that will be replaced is an irrigation culvert. We're asking for this closure to extend through October 24," Muchy said. She said the detour includes gravel sections that will be watered for dust control as needed.
The board also approved a temporary closure of County Road 90 between U.S. Highway 85 and County Road 35 from Oct. 20 through Oct. 24 to accommodate a Union Pacific Railroad crossing repair. Public works noted the detour includes about 1 mile of gravel and that the gravel will be treated with water for dust control if necessary.
Finally, commissioners approved a closure of County Road 35 between County Road 80 and State Highway 14 from Oct. 20 through Dec. 19 to accommodate improvements connected with a Weld RE‑9K school-area project in the Ault area; the agenda identified Connell Resources and the Town of Ault as parties requesting the closure. A commissioner asked whether the county had coordinated with the school district on bus rerouting; Muchy said she would reach out to Connell Resources and to the school district and that the contractor is addressing snow‑removal procedures.
