Cumberland County commissioners on Sept. 25 approved several capital projects covering information technology, facilities security and historic-preservation work.
Eric Radovich described a $33,000 capital project to create an interface between the laboratory’s B.E.S.T. (lab management information system) and CNET (police records system) to enable direct transfer of lab reports among systems. Radovich told commissioners the interface should save staff time at the laboratory, the district attorney’s office and police departments. The board approved that request.
Facilities director Brent Durham requested $221,250 to replace and upgrade the county’s access-control system at 12 facilities, covering roughly 150 doors. Durham said the existing system will be obsolete and lose vendor support at year-end; the proposed installation will include readers with keypads to enable dual-authentication where needed. Commissioners approved the request.
Durham also requested a $16,500 temporary stone paver repair in front of the historic courthouse to remove four deteriorated brownstone pavers, inspect the substrate and install Hanover pavers that mimic brownstone until a full replacement can be pursued. He said a grant application to a historic-preservation source is planned with a likely decision in late 2026; he will present the interim plan to the historical board on Oct. 6 for approval. The board approved the temporary repair.
Durham requested $75,000 to repair and rebuild the courthouse chimney below roof level, replace flashing, relay brick to closely match existing masonry and follow the Secretary of the Interior’s standards for treatment of historic properties; commissioners approved that request.
IMTO director Mark Adams asked the board to authorize a SAN (storage area network) expansion to increase replicated storage at a secondary site because video evidence and other data are consuming space; funding requested was $120,000 with an initial vendor quote of approximately $108,000 and contingency. Commissioners approved that one-time purchase.
