The Norwalk Public Library Board discussed Oct. 9 an update on the planned installation of electric vehicle chargers in the library parking lot and heard that the project’s price has increased since the capital budget was approved.
A board member said the price for work on the parking lot and chargers rose and that the library will examine how to use the funds allocated in the capital budget to complete at least part of the installation before winter; the speaker estimated the increase at “roughly about $10,000,” and said staff hoped to have a decision by the following Monday. The board member also said the city approved the capital allocation in the budget and that staff could follow up with city grants staff about available state funds for EV chargers.
At the meeting a separate capital update noted an estimated delivery in November for an electric "day" item (interpreted by staff as equipment delivery); no firm installation date was set. Board members discussed timing concerns (wanting to install before cold weather and potential further price increases) and asked staff to follow up with the city about grant opportunities and next steps.
No formal vote was taken; the topic was discussed for planning and coordination with the city’s capital and grants staff.
