District leaders briefed the board on the charter-renewal timeline and the state performance dashboard used to rate schools for renewal.
Staff explained the renewal process and the state's performance classification system, which uses the most recent two years of data. Presenters said the district is currently classified at a mid level and described two pathways to a "high" rating: (1) two consecutive years of green/blue results on the dashboard; or (2) meeting or exceeding state results across the dashboard's subgroup measures. Staff noted suspension rate and math outcomes were the primary metrics holding the district back and said November dashboard data will determine the classification used for the renewal timeline.
Presenters emphasized math is comparatively harder to benchmark at the high-school level under the state's methodology because the state compares high-school results to all tested grades statewide (K'11), and elementary scores tend to be closer to standard. The presenter described the district's recent steady gains in math and said closing the remaining scaled-score gap would help reverse the red indicators.
Staff outlined the renewal calendar: preparation cohorts and external workshops are underway, and the district aims to submit materials in time for a renewal decision in late 2026 to early 2027. The presenter said charter renewal outcomes affect potential term length (shorter terms for mid/low ratings, longer for high ratings) and encouraged continued focus on tested metrics and suspension practices.
The board also received updates on instructional rounds (a teacher-led classroom-observation cycle) and the Principal's Student Advisory Council (PSAC). Staff said instructional rounds expanded to 32 teacher participants this year and are being used to identify patterns in classroom practice for professional development. The PSAC reported students who serve on the council want more mental-health supports and increased student involvement in school planning; students also praised the variety of opportunities available at the school.
Why it matters: the dashboard classification will be used as part of the charter-renewal evaluation and can affect renewal term length. Staff presented specific data-driven steps that would improve the district's standing ahead of renewal.
What's next: staff will track dashboard data released in November and continue instructional rounds, and they will incorporate results into the charter-renewal packet to be assembled over the next 12'18 months.
