County staff updated the Board of Commissioners on fairgrounds operations, saying they will begin arena watering in advance of a weekend rodeo and that the county is exploring purchase of surplus bleachers the City of Omak is selling.
Staff said water fill points may close after Oct. 1 because of freeze risk and that they plan to begin watering the arena immediately; they typically haul about three loads when preparing the arena but will adjust for weather. Staff advised calling Josh for operational coordination.
On bleachers, staff said the City of Omak notified them it will buy new bleachers and offered to surplus older bleachers at about $500 each; staff said new bleachers typically cost about $5,000–$6,000. Staff estimated there are five to seven surplus units; if seven units are available at $500 each, the total would be roughly $3,500.
Staff also reported animal counts from recent events. A staff speaker said one event processed 1,131 animals; that speaker also referenced totals across four events but the transcript numbers were not fully clear.
County staff said they will confirm how many bleachers the city will release, verify which agency is handing them off, and check the county budget before authorizing a purchase. No formal purchase authority was recorded during the report; staff said the board would need to authorize any acquisition and would return with a funding recommendation if required.
There was no vote or formal motion during the discussion; staff said they would follow up with the board about bleacher counts and the budget status.
