Missouri City council on Oct. 20 approved submission of an application to the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs for the Community-Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative. The resolution authorizes the application submitter and the city’s authorized representative.
Rachel (last name not provided on the record) presented the grant opportunity and said the funding would cover a civilian media administrator position within the police department at 100% for four years, with the first year covering recruiting, hiring and onboarding and the additional three years covering the position’s full cost with no city match required.
Councilmember Clauser moved to approve the grant application; Councilmember Riley seconded. The council adopted the resolution on a unanimous roll-call vote, 7–0.
Staff said the grant would allow the department to add a civilian position dedicated to media administration and community-based violence prevention communication work; the role and grant terms will follow DOJ program requirements if awarded.
