Grundy County officials said they have retained a county employee, Scott Nelson, after eliminating a formal internal IT department and have revised his role to administrative technology coordinator.
County staff described the change as an update to Nelson’s duties rather than a new position. Melissa, a county staff member who reported the update, said the county “took the guidance from Eric Peterson of Simple Communications for a job description and a title. So his new title is administrative technology coordinator.” The responsibilities listed include technology coordination, vendor management, project support and documentation administration.
Committee members confirmed Nelson’s salary did not change and that he now reports administratively to county administration. Melissa said Nelson would work “hand in hand with Simple Communications,” the county’s outsourced IT vendor, and that Simple Communications is using him as a local contact and resource.
Officials discussed practical examples of Nelson’s ongoing on-site work: supporting badges and fobs for HR and payroll, assisting with election-related technology tasks, and helping the county evaluate replacements for software such as CIC and IQM2. Melissa said the county values having “somebody boots on the ground” to help staff and act as a bridge to the vendor.
No formal personnel vote was recorded on the change; the report was presented as an informational update and administrative adjustment.
