The city of Brooksville will participate in Florida City Government Week from Oct. 20–26 with a set of community activities organized by the city’s public information office, the council heard at its Oct. 20 meeting.
Reagan Brady, the city’s public information officer, described plans for a photography contest, a free scavenger hunt and a series of short informational videos and trivia questions about city departments. Brady told council the activities were produced in-house and required no city budget.
How to participate: Brady said photos for the photography contest must be emailed to pio@cityofbrooksville.us by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22; entrants may submit one photo each. A Facebook pool will open Oct. 23–24 allowing viewers to vote for their top three favorites; prizes for three winners will be announced on Monday, Oct. 27.
Scavenger hunt and prizes: The scavenger hunt will be available for download on the city website and Facebook page and in person at City Hall and the Jerome Brown Community Center beginning Oct. 21. Brady said participants should submit location photos to pio@cityofbrooksville.us by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24; the first 50 participants to submit photos will receive a prize.
Outreach and context: The activities are part of a statewide civic-engagement effort organized by the Florida League of Cities to teach residents about municipal government. Brady encouraged council and staff to participate and said the city will post trivia and informational videos about each department throughout the week.
Quote: "We're super excited about this," Brady said of the photography contest and other events, and she noted that the contests and videos were created by city staff and did not require spending from the city budget.
