The Shawnee County Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday approved Contract C401-2025 with Mammoth Sports Construction LLC, using the Greenbush Cooperative purchasing agreement, for removal and replacement of synthetic turf on four quad fields at the Bettis Family Sports Complex.
Parks and Recreation Director Tim Laurent said the total contract price is $717,600. He said $467,600 of the project cost will come from the Parks for All Foundation and the remainder, $250,000, will be funded from the county’s 2026 capital improvement program (CIP) funds. Laurent said no work will occur this year; the first payment, a mobilization fee, would be due in January and the project is estimated to be complete by about March.
Laurent said Mammoth will use a different turf product than the previous installation; the existing turf is roughly 16 years old. He also said the contract includes alternates for running electricity to each mound and a $30,000 contingency for aggregate leveling after old turf is removed; unused contingency funds would be returned to the county.
No sponsor signage or corporate logos are included in the project, Laurent said, though commissioners asked whether sponsor inserts could be added later.
Commissioner Aaron Mays moved to approve the contract; Commissioner Kevin Cook seconded. The motion passed 3-0.
