Carroll County commissioners voted to accept a second six‑month installment of a Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant in the amount of $16,250 during their Oct. 20 meeting.
County Attorney Blair explained the state had split VOCA funding into two halves because of uncertainty at the federal level earlier in the year, and that the county previously received the first half. Blair told the commission the attorney general’s office had now authorized the second half and presented the acceptance packet for signature.
A commissioner moved to accept the funds; the motion was seconded and approved on an aye vote. Blair told commissioners he would leave the acceptance documents for the executive director to sign and that the county attorney’s office had completed its review of the packet.
VOCA (Victims of Crime Act) grants are federal funds administered by the state attorney general’s office to support local victim‑witness advocacy services. Blair said the county’s victim‑witness advocacy program budget line is about $187,934 for the coming year, slightly up from the prior year primarily because of salary and benefit adjustments.
