The Madison County Board of Education took the following formal actions at its Oct. 16 meeting. All motions below were approved by voice vote unless otherwise noted.
- Consent agenda: Approved minutes from the Sept. 25, 2025 meeting; claims; superintendent personnel actions; leaves of absence; technology surplus; several out-of-state field trip requests (Clark Moores Middle School 8th grade trip to Cincinnati, OH on March 19, 2026; Madison Central High School choir/musical theater trip to Orlando, FL in December 2025; others); three shortened school-day applications and review of school activity funds. Motion and approval recorded (motion made and seconded; voice vote).
- Approve monthly finance reports (September bank reconciliation and investment report). Motion by Ms. Brock, second by Mr. Rutherford; approved by voice vote.
- Award HVAC and related bid packages for Madison Southern High School and Foley Middle School (see separate article for contract amounts). Motion carried; voice vote.
- Approve change order No. 1 for Waco Elementary School (Allen Company Inc.) in the amount of $808,271.15. Motion by Mr. Rutherford, second by Ms. Brock; approved.
- Approve change order No. 2 for Waco Elementary School (Branscombe Construction Company) in the amount of $15,195.50. Motion by Ms. Cobb, second by Ms. Burford; approved.
- Approve BG-4 forms for Philip Building renovation and site improvements (phase 1 and 2) as a closeout/administrative step. Motion carried.
- Approve plats declaring the old Madison Middle School property surplus and authorizing the platting for sale. Motion by Ms. Burford, second by Mr. Rutherford; approved.
- Authorize the superintendent to negotiate memoranda of agreement (MOAs) with local law enforcement regarding SROs, including placement at Silver Creek Elementary School. Motion by Ms. Brock, second by Mr. Rutherford; approved.
- Approve the 2026–27 calendar committee membership for drafting next year’s school calendar. Motion carried.
- Approve Each Fence Company invoice for $60,000 to install fencing around soccer fields and new middle schools. Motion carried.
- Create and ratify one LBD special education teacher position at Kirksville Elementary School (district-funded). Motion carried.
- Adjourned by motion and second; voice vote.
