The Las Vegas City Art Commission voted Oct. 16 to accept a donated artwork, an acrylic print titled Las Vegas Civic Center Layered by Arman Thomas, into the city's permanent art collection. Mary Sabo, cultural affairs staff, presented the work and staff recommendation to accession the piece.

The acceptance covers a layered acrylic print commissioned by LGA Architecture that documents the construction process of the Civic Center Plaza, according to materials presented to the commission. “Staff does recommend the arts commission consider assessing this piece into the collection,” Mary Sabo said while showing an image of the work to commissioners.

Commissioner Cleven moved to approve the accession and Commissioner Beals seconded the motion. Commissioner Cleven commented that the piece “is really beautiful” and “shows a true progression of how this project came to be.” The commission then voted in favor; no commissioners voiced opposition and the motion passed.

The staff report indicated the donated work is currently hanging on the administrative side of the cultural affairs offices and included a listed value in the meeting materials. The commission did not discuss any fiscal impact tied to the accession beyond confirming staff recommended acceptance.

The commission moved on to the next agenda item after the vote.
