The Historic Landmark Commission tabled an application for a rear addition at 4636 Cable Circle, a contributing property in the Austin Terrace Historic District, and attached compliance conditions because staff found unpermitted window removals and infill on the house.
Staff reported that the house, built in 1939 and designated contributing, has had original windows removed and replaced with sliders and single‑pane units on primary and secondary facades; in some places infill has been added without approvals or permits. The applicant proposes a rear addition that staff described as simple and located behind the house with limited visibility from the street, though visible from the alley because of the property’s chain‑link fence.
Staff recommended approval with modifications and also proposed two additional conditions: require accurate drawings (plans, elevations, sections) prior to permitting and withhold issuance of permits until existing violations are corrected. One commissioner suggested a 90‑day compliance window for the owner to cure violations; staff confirmed there are at least two commission meetings before the current application expiration.
Because no applicant representative was present at the public portion of the discussion, commissioners favored tabling the item to allow the owner or representative to appear and to permit staff to confirm compliance. The commission moved to table the item; the motion was seconded and passed. Commissioners asked staff to return the item once the property is back in compliance and accurate construction drawings are submitted.
