Nibley City Council voted Oct. 16 to adopt a resolution updating the city’s consolidated fee schedule to reflect a contractually permitted increase in trash collection costs.
Staff explained that the Cache County waste consortium contract with Waste Management includes an inflation adjustment tied to the Bureau of Labor Statistics index for waste collection. The consortium notified members that an adjustment would take effect Oct. 1; staff said the city needed to update its fee schedule so the additional contract cost would not be absorbed by the city’s general fund.
City finance and public‑works staff told the council the increase corresponds to the contract index and that some cities in the consortium are implementing the change now while others are seeking a brief delay. Staff estimated the change would represent a modest monthly impact across city accounts and clarified the city charges an administrative add‑on per can; staff said the consolidated schedule is usually reviewed in December/January, but the contract timing made an earlier amendment advisable.
Council approved the resolution and asked staff to continue communicating with the consortium about timing; staff said residents could still change service levels (for example, drop to a smaller can) and that the city would include updated billing notices to customers.
The motion passed by roll call without recorded opposition.
