Far West — The Far West City Council voted unanimously Oct. 15 to adopt Ordinance No. 25 2025-10, vacating a 10-foot public utility easement on the south side of 2941 West 3500 North to accommodate a homeowner’s proposed storage building.
Applicant Michael Craig told the council he wanted to build a larger shed and would be placing the new structure about 5 feet inside the existing 10-foot easement. Craig said a smaller shed currently occupies the space and that the request seeks to legalize and enlarge that structure.
The council opened a public hearing; no members of the public spoke. Following the hearing, councilmembers moved to approve the ordinance. A motion to approve Ordinance No. 25 2025-10 was made, seconded and approved by voice vote with no recorded opposed votes.
Council discussion on the item was brief and focused on procedure; one councilmember asked whether a roll call was necessary, and the mayor noted it was not required for the item. The ordinance will be recorded according to city practice and take effect per standard municipal procedures.
The applicant may proceed with permitting and construction consistent with any separate building-code or utility easement relocation processes that apply.
