Jefferson County commissioners were told on Oct. 2 that the county’s digital-inclusion task force will be winding down in October after roughly four years of work. Task force members proposed a device giveaway and a presence at a county 4‑H trick-or-treat event to use remaining funds and to close out the program.
Task force speakers said earlier purchases left three devices on hand (two Chromebooks and one tablet) and about $445 remaining after planned trick-or-treat expenses. The plan presented to commissioners was to use remaining ARPA-allocated funds to buy accessories and possibly antivirus subscriptions for the devices, and to distribute devices at no cost via a simple nomination and email-entry process. Organizers said entries would close Oct. 31 and winners would be chosen within a week.
Ranisha, a task force member and coordinator of the wrap-up activities, told the board the task force has helped expand internet access and device availability since 2021 and that members want to conclude their work with community outreach and a positive public event. Commissioners expressed support for the idea and asked that final details be run by county staff to ensure ARPA reporting and transparency requirements are met.
No formal funding motions were made at the meeting; task force leaders said they would return with final details if further county approvals are needed.
