Sunbury — The city engineer gave council Oct. 1 a multi-project update that included a long-running wastewater treatment plant expansion, a new downtown parking lot and an upcoming water-line replacement.

City Engineer said the multi-part wastewater treatment plant expansion will continue through 2027 and provided a schematic schedule condensing expected work on various components. “This project will last through the 2027,” she said, and staff noted dates in the schedule may shift as construction progresses.

Separately, the engineer said the Columbus Street corner paver parking lot at Granville and Columbus is under construction and should be ready for parking by the Thanksgiving period, adding roughly 26 spaces though lighting installations may occur later in spring. On Evening Street, a Del-Co water-line replacement is under way; staff said the tie-in required near Granville Street appears to allow crews to stay out of the roadway so the Granville intersection should remain open — crews may finish the mainline installation sooner than earlier estimated dates.

The engineer said she would post the larger, more readable version of the wastewater project schedule on the city website and provide updates as progress meetings occur.

What happens next: Staff will continue monthly updates as the wastewater project advances, complete the Columbus Street lot work by Thanksgiving and monitor the Evening Street water-line replacement progress.
