Lehi County Finance Committee on Oct. 2 approved the proposed FY2026-27 budget calendar, a schedule that begins with a November kickoff meeting for department staff and aims for final adoption in June 2026.
The calendar lays out the county s annual budget process, including a November budget-team kickoff, department-level budget review sessions beginning in February and public hearings before the June adoption. "This is just a standard process that we go through each year," the Budget team member said, describing forms, deadlines and the online system departments will use.
The committee was told the kickoff invites all department staff involved in preparing budgets and that the county s budget team meets individually with each department to review requests and justifications. "Starting in February, the budget team actually meets with every single department and goes over their specific budget requests," the Budget team member said, noting the team asks departments to justify increases compared with prior-year spending.
Commissioners asked about their role in the meetings and whether attendance could create a quorum. The chairman reminded commissioners they are invited but that department meetings are internal and must have fewer than a quorum of commissioners present. The Budget team member said commissioners are typically given summary briefings later in the process, when staff present personnel requests, capital requests and notable operating variances.
Committee members also described the process as structured and detailed, with roughly 45 to 50 separate department meetings during the review period. "We try to keep those to two [commissioners]" for direct attendance so as not to create a quorum, the Budget team member said.
A motion to adopt the proposed FY2026-27 budget calendar carried on a voice vote.
The calendar is procedural: it sets internal milestones and public hearing timelines rather than altering budget amounts. Commissioners and the public will see department-level requests and staff recommendations later in the fiscal-cycle presentations leading to the June adoption.
