The Glynn County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 2 approved a set of property‑disposition actions: (1) add remaining county‑owned parcels to a final auction sale; (2) release certain tax deeds as uncollectible because of prior sales or merged parcel records; and (3) authorize transfer of three unsold parcels to the Glynn County Land Bank Authority.
Mr. Chapman, representing the county tax office and property staff, told the board the resolutions complete a process started earlier in which about 21 parcels had not been processed in time for an earlier sale. He said the auction program so far generated approximately $2,400,000 in revenue and about $190,000 in additional overage that went to county government. "We had initially budgeted 45,000 in legal fees, but because of the cooperation and the help from the county attorney's office, the CFO, and the diligent work at the tax office, we were able to do that at no additional outside cost or overtime," Chapman said.
On the second resolution, Chapman said staff had identified tax deeds that were uncollectible because the parcels were previously sold in prior tax sales or because parcel records had been merged, leaving inactive parcel numbers still in the finance system. He characterized the action as a housekeeping measure to clean county records.
On the third item, Chapman said three parcels (Parcel 01‑025551617 Lee Street; Parcel 01‑070201718 Norwood Street; Parcel 01‑04851 vacant lot on Martin Luther King Boulevard) had been listed multiple times with no buyers and were appropriate for transfer to the Glynn County Land Bank Authority for redevelopment packaging.
Commissioners praised staff coordination across the tax office, county attorney and CFO and approved the three resolutions by motion and voice vote. Chapman said staff identified roughly 50 additional "unknown" or legacy parcel records and will continue researching ownership and next steps, and he expected follow‑up reporting within the year.
Outcome: Board approved the resolutions to sell remaining county parcels at auction, to release specified tax deeds as uncollectible, and to transfer the three listed parcels to the Glynn County Land Bank Authority. Staff will continue work identifying and resolving additional legacy parcel records.
