Crawford County commissioners opened and read aloud bids for two capital projects — a 30-by-60 storage building and the Crawford County Judicial Center heating plant upgrade — and agreed to send the submissions to staff for technical review.
For the storage building, staff read bids from JT Construction, Tri State Building and Home Center Construction. JT Construction proposed $57,795.83 with an option to furnish and install a 29-gallon liner panel for an additional $11,005.96. Tri State’s bid appeared as a $79,997 base with an option for a liner panel for $10,808 (total quoted elsewhere in the packet as $90,805). Home Center Construction submitted a base bid of $112,320 with an option for the liner panel at $12,880.
Commissioners agreed to send the storage-building bids to county reviewers (identified in the meeting as Robert Grinch and Mr. Crozier) to evaluate and return with a recommendation.
On the heating plant upgrade, staff read three bids. James River Mechanical proposed a base price of $88,500 to furnish and install boilers and pumps and an additional $14,787.32 for requested control work. CDL submitted a bid of $77,715. Design Mechanical Incorporated bid $113,835 and included a voluntary add-on to furnish and install a chemical sock filter for an additional $17.16.
The commission agreed to have county staff (identified in the meeting as Mr. Crozier and Mr. Prince) compare the heating-plant bids and report back with a recommendation.
Why it matters: Both projects involve county capital spending and maintenance of county facilities. Sending the bids to technical staff is the normal procurement step before awarding contracts or requesting further action from the commission.
Details provided in the meeting: Staff read the bid line items into the record and noted which bids included optional add-ons such as interior liner panels for the storage building and a chemical sock filter for the boiler package. The commission did not award either contract at the meeting; staff were directed to review and return with recommendations.
Next steps: Designated county reviewers will analyze the bids and come back to the commission with a recommendation for award or further action.
