San Antonio Water System (SAWS) is taking significant steps to enhance water management and conservation in response to the growing demands of the city. During the recent City Council B Session on October 1, 2025, SAWS representatives highlighted their commitment to securing and protecting water resources through innovative practices and programs.
Over the past 25 years, SAWS has successfully sourced water from seven different supplies, ensuring that the city can meet its increasing needs. To complement this diverse water portfolio, the utility has implemented best-in-class water conservation initiatives aimed at helping both homes and businesses maximize their water usage efficiency.
A key focus for SAWS moving forward is addressing non-revenue water, commonly known as water loss. This issue has become more pressing due to recent drought conditions and staffing challenges. To tackle this, SAWS has established a dedicated office for non-revenue water, led by Richard Donut, who was unable to attend the meeting. This initiative aims to reduce water loss and ensure that the community continues to receive sustainable and affordable water services for years to come.
The discussions at the meeting underscored the importance of proactive water stewardship as San Antonio grows. By prioritizing water conservation and loss reduction, SAWS is positioning itself to meet future challenges while safeguarding this vital resource for the community.
