The Canfield City Council meeting on October 1, 2025, highlighted significant strides in local economic development, particularly with the expansion of IES, a high-tech operation that has invested $3 million in the community. This expansion is set to create 10 to 15 new jobs while retaining 65 existing positions, marking a positive outcome for the city’s economic landscape.
City officials discussed the approval of a 10-year tax abatement for IES, a move that underscores the city’s commitment to fostering business growth. City Attorney Fortunato emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “We created an opportunity for business. They decide to stay in the city and put an enormous amount of money into the city.” This decision was also supported by the local school board, showcasing a collaborative effort to enhance economic development.
In addition to the IES expansion, the meeting also celebrated the official opening of Cockeye Creamery, which had its soft launch earlier in the week. This new business adds to the local economy and provides residents with more options for dining and leisure.
The council also announced upcoming community events, including a trunk or treat on October 25, aimed at fostering community spirit and ensuring public safety with police presence during the festivities.
Overall, the meeting reflected a proactive approach to economic development and community engagement, with city leaders optimistic about future growth and opportunities in Canfield.
