The Canfield City Council meeting on October 1, 2025, focused on various reports from city officials, highlighting ongoing projects and upcoming initiatives.
Public Works Superintendent John Rath reported significant progress in maintaining the city's fire hydrants. In September, his team serviced 317 hydrants and conducted 101 flow tests, ensuring compliance with safety regulations. Rath noted that the city has a total of 472 fire hydrants and is on track to complete required maintenance within the next five years. He also reminded residents that leaf pickup will begin on February 13 and continue until December.
Finance Director Mrs. Clayton shared that the state auditors released the city's audit report, which spans 520 pages. She announced that the city has been awarded the OBI task force grant for fiscal year 2026, marking the fifteenth consecutive year of receiving this federal grant. This funding will be allocated to a separate fund, as required, and a budget adjustment to facilitate immediate spending was included in the meeting's agenda.
The meeting also included brief updates from other officials, with no significant new reports from the mayor, planning and zoning, or the fire board. The next planning and zoning meeting is scheduled for the following week.
Overall, the meeting underscored the city's commitment to maintaining public safety infrastructure and securing funding for ongoing projects, while also preparing for seasonal services for residents.
