A new daycare center is set to open at 505 North Ridgeland Avenue, following a unanimous decision by the Oak Park Board of Trustees to grant a special use permit. The center, proposed by Kids Space Academy LLC, aims to accommodate approximately 94 children, operating from 6 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday.
During the meeting, Village Planner Mike Bruce outlined the necessary modifications for the site, which has been vacant for four years. Plans include restriping the parking lot, adding a new driveway to minimize traffic disruptions, and creating designated drop-off and pick-up areas. Additionally, the facility will feature an outdoor play area protected by fencing and will undergo extensive renovations to comply with all regulatory standards.
The proposal was previously reviewed by the Zoning Board of Appeals, which held a public hearing on September 11, 2025. The board's recommendation to approve the permit was met with support from the trustees, highlighting the community's need for childcare services.
This development is expected to enhance local childcare options and stimulate activity in the area, marking a significant step forward for the neighborhood.
