Thurston County Unveils New I Voted Sticker and Proclaims First Responders Day

Thurston County is set to enhance civic engagement with the unveiling of a new "I Voted" sticker, designed to inspire pride among voters. This initiative was announced during the Thurston County Board of County Commissioners meeting on September 2, 2025, marking the twelfth year of recognizing National Voter Registration Day in the county. The sticker, created by local artist Alexis Trano, features elements that reflect the natural beauty of Washington State, including the iconic rhododendron, and will be included in every general election voter pamphlet through 2027.

The design aims to foster a sense of community and patriotism among voters, with officials expressing gratitude for Trano's contribution. The stickers will serve as a symbol of civic participation, encouraging residents to engage in the electoral process.

In addition to the sticker launch, the meeting included a proclamation for First Responders' Day, honoring the sacrifices made by emergency personnel, particularly in remembrance of the events of September 11, 2001. Brian Hurley, president of the Thurston County Association of Fire Chiefs, emphasized the ongoing challenges faced by first responders, including health issues stemming from their service.

The commissioners also recognized September as National Suicide Prevention Month, highlighting the importance of mental health awareness in the community. These initiatives reflect the county's commitment to supporting both civic engagement and the well-being of its residents. As Thurston County moves forward, these efforts aim to strengthen community ties and promote active participation in local governance.
