Austin Police Department Celebrates Commissioning of 35 New Officers

The 154th Austin Police Academy Graduation Ceremony took place on August 29, 2025, celebrating the achievements of 35 new police officers. The event commenced with an invocation led by ABD Chaplain Pastor Carl Harvey, who offered prayers for the officers and their families, emphasizing the importance of their safety and the wisdom needed for leadership within the Austin Police Department.

Following the invocation, Police Chief Lisa Davis welcomed attendees and acknowledged the distinguished guests present, including members of the APD command staff and representatives from local educational institutions. Chief Davis expressed gratitude for the efforts of the recruiting and training divisions, highlighting their role in transforming cadets into qualified officers.

The ceremony recognized the hard work and dedication of the graduating cadets, who completed one of the most rigorous training programs in the nation. Chief Davis also took a moment to honor active and retired peace officers, inviting them to stand and receive appreciation for their service.

The keynote speaker for the event was Chief Matthew Greer, who has a long history with the Austin Police Department and currently serves as the Chief of Police for Eanes Independent School District. His career highlights included various leadership roles within the APD, culminating in his retirement in 2019.

The ceremony underscored the commitment of the Austin Police Department to community safety and the ongoing support for its officers, both new and veteran. The event concluded with a call for unity and respect for those who serve in law enforcement.
