In a recent meeting of the RAQC Board on August 1, 2025, significant strides were reported in community initiatives aimed at reducing air pollution and promoting sustainable practices across Colorado. The discussions highlighted the launch of two new electric bike libraries in collaboration with West Metro Housing and the Denver Housing Authority, with plans to expand to Adams County and Fort Collins in the future. The initiative aims to enhance mobility options while encouraging eco-friendly transportation methods, with bikes expected to be operational by August.
The board also shared updates on pollution reduction efforts, including the successful execution of two exchange events that distributed 227 electric mower vouchers and recycled an equal number of gas mowers. This initiative, supported by a $200,000 investment from various landscaping companies and a $120,000 contribution from Ace Hardware and Steel, has significantly bolstered the landscaping community, providing over half a million dollars worth of equipment this year alone.
Additionally, the Engines Off program has allocated over $500,000 in grants for more than 45 projects aimed at reducing emissions. This includes funding for micro mobile businesses, such as food trucks, to transition from gas to electric power. The program has also seen success in recycling gas generators and providing financial support through private matches.
The Clean Air Auto Repair initiative reported over 80 vehicle repairs this year, with a total investment exceeding $300,000. The most common repairs involved Ford and Chevy vehicles, with catalytic converters and oxygen sensors being the primary issues addressed.
Looking ahead, the board announced the upcoming Clean Air Champions Award ceremony, scheduled for September 16 at the Denver Performing Arts Center. This event will recognize individuals and organizations making significant contributions to air quality improvement. Nominations for the awards are still open, inviting community members to highlight deserving candidates.
Overall, the meeting underscored the RAQC's commitment to fostering sustainable practices and improving air quality in Colorado, with ongoing projects and community engagement playing a crucial role in these efforts.
