Temple City Council Reviews Kegley Road Project Costs and Transparency Efforts

The City of Temple's Special Called City Council Meeting on August 29, 2025, spotlighted the ongoing challenges and costs associated with the Kegley Road project, a topic that has been under discussion since 2013. Council members emphasized the significant increase in projected expenses, which have surged by approximately 80% since initial estimates. The current design contract estimates the cost at $26.4 million, but officials cautioned that this figure may not fully account for the complex soil conditions that have historically complicated roadwork in the area.

Council members acknowledged the extensive planning required for such projects, noting that road construction in Temple is not only costly but also requires careful consideration of the local environment. The discussion highlighted the varying conditions along Kegley Road, with the area closer to Interstate 35 presenting more challenges compared to the more favorable conditions near Oak Hill.

In addition to road infrastructure, the council celebrated the arrival of new trash trucks, which are expected to enhance waste management services. With 8 or 9 of the 11 trucks ordered now in service, officials expressed optimism about improved reliability in city operations.
