Venice City Council is taking significant steps to enhance public safety with the approval of a new jet ski for emergency water rescues. During the budget workshop held on June 19, 2025, council members discussed the critical role of the jet ski in responding to emergencies, particularly in situations where time is of the essence.

The fire department highlighted that the jet ski is essential for quick water rescues, as it can reach distressed swimmers much faster than the fireboat. With a top speed of over 60 miles per hour, the jet ski can be beach-launched directly from locations like Venice Beach, allowing first responders to arrive swiftly at the scene of an emergency. This capability is crucial, especially in scenarios where every second counts.

In addition to its primary function for rescues, the jet ski will also be utilized during hurricane events to navigate flooded areas, further demonstrating its versatility and importance in the community's emergency response strategy.
