The proposed ordinance, known as Temporary Ordinance 2,601, amends the city’s land development code to ensure that pre-application neighborhood meetings are open to the public and that property owners in townhouse, condominium, or timeshare developments receive direct notifications. This change comes in response to concerns raised during a community meeting held by Commissioner Crystal Patterson, where residents expressed feelings of being under-informed about a rezoning application for Kings Point Tamarac.

Key features of the amendment include requirements for neighborhood meetings to be recorded, expanded public notice methods—including digital outreach—and the necessity for applicants to submit a written summary of the meeting before any public hearings are scheduled. These measures are designed to foster accountability among developers and ensure that community voices are heard and considered in the decision-making process.

The ordinance also emphasizes the importance of timely communication, recognizing that many residents rely on digital platforms for local news. By publishing meeting notices on the city’s website and social media, the city aims to reach a broader audience and enhance public participation.

The Planning Board has recommended that the City Commission approve this ordinance, which is set for consideration on August 27, 2025, with a second reading scheduled for September 10, 2025.
