In a recent meeting held at Tamarac City Hall, the Planning Board discussed a significant request for a site plan extension for a new childcare facility located at 7830 North University Drive. The proposal, presented by Brett Foster, the owner of the property, seeks an additional 12-month extension for the construction of a 6,204 square foot daycare building and a 2,750 square foot play area.

Foster explained that the extension is necessary due to unforeseen circumstances surrounding the original operator's health issues, which have hindered progress on the project. Despite these challenges, he expressed optimism, noting that a new operator has been identified and a lease agreement was executed in late October 2024. The project has also secured financing, allowing for construction to move forward.

Rob Johnson, Senior Planner for the Community Development Department, provided a detailed overview of the project's history. The Planning Board initially approved the site plan in January 2021, with subsequent extensions granted due to the operator's health complications. Johnson emphasized that the request for the extension aligns with the city's strategic goals, particularly in revitalizing the community's image and attractiveness.

The board members engaged in a thoughtful discussion, ultimately leaning towards approving the extension. This decision will allow the daycare project to proceed, contributing to the community's growth and providing essential childcare services.
