During the recent Board of Commissioners meeting on August 15, 2025, discussions centered on the need for improved signage and the implementation of rumble strips at high-risk intersections.

Commissioner Howell emphasized the importance of increasing the visibility of warning signs, advocating for a standardization of larger 36-inch stop signs, as opposed to the state-mandated 30-inch signs. He noted that while some larger signs have been installed in areas with a history of accidents, there is still a need for further upgrades to ensure driver awareness and safety.

The conversation also highlighted the effectiveness of rumble strips, which can alert drivers through tactile feedback, especially in situations where distractions, such as mobile phone use, may impair attention. Howell pointed out that many accidents occur due to driver inattention, with 86% of crashes attributed to distractions. Richard Bluebaugh, a fellow commissioner, agreed to compile this data, acknowledging that while there may be an intermittent spike in accidents, the underlying issue of distracted driving remains a significant concern.
