The board had previously received proposals from two companies, Aetna and Admed, and tasked Aon with determining the cost-effectiveness of each option without altering the existing health plans for county employees.

Upal clarified that the county is self-insured, meaning that while the insurance provider may change, the coverage and benefits for employees would remain intact. The only potential change would be the acceptance of the insurance by individual doctors.

Emily Naples, an assistant vice president at Aon, and Amanda Brook Cross, the lead actuary, presented their findings. They noted that Aetna's network would provide a better match for current doctors, with a 99% compatibility rate compared to Admed's 89%. This suggests that switching to Aetna could offer more accessible healthcare options for county employees.

The meeting underscored the board's commitment to ensuring cost-effective healthcare solutions while maintaining employee benefits. Further discussions and decisions regarding the insurance proposals are expected in upcoming meetings as the board evaluates Aon's analysis.
