The Payson Town Council is set to approve a significant change order for well drilling, following unexpected challenges encountered during the project. During the meeting on August 13, 2025, council members discussed the need for an additional $96,100 to complete the drilling of the new Skypark well, bringing the total cost to approximately $246,000.

The original contract with Integrity Drilling Services was approved in April for $150,000 after a competitive bidding process. However, the drilling team faced hard rock conditions that necessitated additional equipment and time, leading to unforeseen costs. The council learned that the drilling process would require a rental air compressor at $3,000 per day and additional expenses related to hard rock drilling, totaling around $71,100.

In a bid for transparency, the council emphasized the importance of addressing these costs to ensure the project’s completion. The approved budget for well rehabilitation and replacement stands at $778,095, allowing the town manager to allocate funds as needed. The council is now seeking to finalize the change order to ensure the well can be completed without further delays.
