In a recent meeting of the McKinney Planning & Zoning Commission, significant progress was made regarding the development of a new facility for Cornerstone, a local organization known for its impactful community work. The commission approved the necessary measures to facilitate this move, which is expected to be completed within the next 18 to 24 months. Notably, Cornerstone will benefit from a three-year lease-back agreement at no cost, allowing them to transition smoothly into their new location.

The property, located just north of the planned expansion of Highway 546, is set to be part of a larger development plan. According to the city’s comprehensive plan, the area north of Highway 546 is designated for light industrial use, while the southern side will remain residential. This strategic planning aims to balance industrial growth with residential needs, ensuring that community development aligns with the city's vision.

During the meeting, commissioners expressed their support for Cornerstone, highlighting the organization's positive contributions to the community. The approval of this project will not only enhance Cornerstone's operational capabilities but also contribute to the economic development of the area.

The commission also welcomed Lucas Riley as the new planning director, who will be introduced at the next meeting. This change in leadership is anticipated to bring fresh perspectives to the planning and zoning processes in McKinney.

The commission's decisions will be forwarded to the city council for final action on September 2, 2025. As McKinney continues to grow, these developments reflect the city’s commitment to fostering a supportive environment for both businesses and residents.
