The Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency (FPRA) is making strides to enhance the community's recreational spaces and improve the overall aesthetic of downtown Fort Pierce. During a recent meeting, officials discussed several key projects aimed at benefiting residents and visitors alike.

One of the most exciting developments is the planned expansion of the boat ramp, which is set to be double the size of the current largest ramp in St. Lucie County, San Blum. With a budget of $500,000 allocated for fiscal year 2026, pre-construction activities are underway, and a project and funding agreement will be presented in the future.

In addition to the boat ramp, improvements to the river walk were highlighted as a priority. These enhancements are designed to create a more inviting space for exercise and leisure, catering to residents of all ages. Plans include adding street pole banners to promote recreational activities, marking 5K routes, and installing additional swinging benches with shade to beautify the area.

The meeting also addressed the need for updating historic marker signs, particularly in downtown Fort Pierce and at the jetty. Many of these signs are in disrepair, and officials aim to replace them with new signage that reflects the district's branding and educates the community about its history.

Another significant initiative discussed was the replacement of existing trash cans with eco-friendly, solar-powered trash compactors. This upgrade, estimated at $200,000, aims to enhance the efficiency of waste management while improving the visual appeal of downtown streets and parks.
