Key accomplishments over the summer included renovations at the junior high school to create additional locker space for the girls wrestling program, which is expected to improve functionality for the team. At Mitchellville Elementary, modifications were made to better accommodate special education students, including the installation of walls to create independent workspaces and flooring upgrades to enhance the environment.

Further improvements were noted at the high school, where science rooms were expanded by removing walls to increase space. Delaware Elementary also saw the installation of soft surfacing under playground equipment, which is anticipated to serve as a model for future playground enhancements.

The meeting also addressed ongoing issues with the parking lot between the junior high and district office. Problems arose due to non-compliance with elevation standards during the concrete pouring process, necessitating the removal and re-pouring of sections. The contractor is currently working to resolve these issues, but delays have been caused by weather conditions. The estimated cost for correcting the elevation discrepancies is around $5,500, which is being negotiated with the contractor.

Concerns were raised regarding the absence of planned gate arms for the new bus gate, which were initially included in the project discussions but ultimately omitted from the final specifications. The board members expressed the need for clearer communication regarding changes in project plans to avoid confusion in the future.

As the meeting concluded, the district officials emphasized the importance of monitoring the construction work, especially with anticipated rain in the coming week, to ensure safety and compliance with standards.
