Wellington's Village Council has made significant strides in enhancing community safety and infrastructure during their recent Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) Budget Workshop. A key highlight from the meeting was the advancement of the Vision Zero action plan, part of the Safe Streets for All program. This plan has now moved into the implementation phase, allowing the village to apply for federal grant funding for various traffic safety projects.

The first set of projects includes traffic calming measures along Greenview Shores, featuring a proposed roundabout at the intersection of Greenview Shores and Meadow Avenue. This initiative aims to improve traffic flow and enhance safety for residents and visitors alike. However, the project is contingent on securing funding from the Federal Highway Administration.

In addition to traffic safety improvements, the council discussed ongoing capital projects, including the Wellington Aquatic Center and the Wellington Sports Academy. The Aquatic Center is currently under construction, with a topping-off ceremony scheduled for August. It is expected to reach substantial completion by mid-October, with a grand opening planned for early January 2026.

The Wellington Sports Academy is also progressing, with hopes of achieving a certificate of occupancy by September. This would allow partial use of the facility, including the training area and batting cages, ahead of its full completion in December.

The council also noted the completion of streetscaping along Big Blue Trace, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the area. Furthermore, plans for a new Sheriff's Station are currently in the design phase, indicating ongoing efforts to bolster community safety and services.

These developments reflect Wellington's commitment to improving infrastructure and public safety, with tangible benefits expected for residents in the near future. The council's proactive approach in securing funding and advancing projects underscores their dedication to fostering a safer and more vibrant community.
