The Queen Creek Town Council meeting on August 6, 2025, focused on critical issues surrounding water safety and recognized the achievements of the town's fleet division.
A significant discussion highlighted the alarming rates of child drownings in Arizona, which ranks among the highest in the nation. Council members emphasized the importance of water safety, urging residents to follow the "A B C D's" of water safety: A for adult supervision, B for barriers between children and water, C for classes like CPR and swim lessons, and D for devices such as life jackets. The recent opening of the Queen Creek Aquatic Center has allowed the town to provide over 5,200 hours of swim lessons to 985 participants, reinforcing the town's commitment to preventing tragic drownings.
In addition to water safety, the council celebrated the accomplishments of the fleet division, which has recently received multiple national recognitions. The division was ranked 35th in the NAFA 100 Best Fleets list for 2025, highlighting its excellence in accountability, efficiency, and innovation. Ernesto Lopez, a technician in the fleet division, received an honorable mention for Fleet Professional of the Year. The division was also named one of the top 50 leading fleets by Government Fleet Magazine and received the Police Fleet Innovator Award for effectively addressing challenges such as supply chain disruptions and officer safety improvements.
These achievements underscore the dedication and teamwork within the fleet division, which maintains approximately 700 vehicles and equipment. The council expressed pride in the fleet's contributions to public safety and community service, marking a significant milestone for the town of Queen Creek.
