The Marion County Board of County Commissioners held a public hearing on August 6, 2025, to discuss the East Lake - Woodmar Road Improvement project. The meeting provided a platform for community members to voice their opinions and concerns regarding the proposed enhancements to the road.
Tim Robertson, a resident of Weresdale, spoke in favor of the assessment, highlighting several critical issues with the current state of the road. He noted that heavy rains often lead to water runoff that washes out the road's sides, creating dangerous conditions for drivers. Robertson described the existing ditches on either side of the road, which are 8 to 10 inches deep, posing a risk of damage to vehicles that might veer off the road.
In addition to safety concerns, Robertson pointed out that the road generates significant dust when dry, even at low speeds. He also raised issues regarding the intersection of 140 Third Street and County Road 25, where the lack of a proper apron makes it difficult for vehicles to merge safely into traffic. He emphasized that the current gravel apron can cause tires to spin, further complicating the situation for drivers.
Robertson mentioned that a recent survey revealed portions of the road encroach on private property, which could lead to disputes with neighbors. He expressed urgency for the project, noting that the community has been advocating for improvements for over two years. The residents are eager to see the project move forward to enhance safety and accessibility on East Lake - Woodmar Road.
The meeting concluded with a commitment from the Board to consider the community's feedback as they move forward with the planning and implementation of the road improvement project.
