The recent government meeting focused on a proposed development at 705 Brownlee Circle, which has sparked significant community concern. Steve Amason, chair of the Ottawa Saltson Neighborhood Association, reported that the project has evolved from a triplex to a fourplex since its last review in October 2024. This change was discussed during a meeting with the zoning committee and the Old West Lassen Neighborhood Association on July 31.
Amason highlighted that a neighbor raised issues regarding a restricted covenant that limits development on the property to one story. Concerns were voiced about the scale and massing of the new four-story structure, with residents questioning whether such a development complies with the existing restrictions. The Ottawa Saltson Neighborhood Association (OANA) recommended that the applicant meet with the architectural review committee to present revised drawings and engage with neighbors to address these concerns.
Tom Bray, a resident of 707 Brownlee Circle, also expressed his surprise at the proposed changes, stating that he had not been informed about the four-story design until recently. He emphasized the lack of communication from the applicants regarding the project, which has raised alarm among nearby residents.
The meeting underscored the importance of community engagement in local development projects, as residents seek clarity on the implications of the proposed changes and adherence to existing regulations. The next steps involve further discussions between the applicant and the community to address these pressing concerns.
