A new 7-Eleven store is set to transform a Decatur property, as the Planning and Zoning Commission approved an amendment to the planned development (PD) during a recent meeting. Representing Vicaro Ventures, the developer highlighted that the new store will feature a modern 4,800 square foot design, which deviates from the original plans approved in 2022.
The developer emphasized the importance of maintaining a uniform appearance for the buildings in the area, aiming to enhance the overall aesthetic and safety of the site. A key aspect of the proposal included a request for larger directional signage to improve traffic flow and safety for incoming and outgoing vehicles.
During the meeting, commissioners raised questions about the building materials, specifically the use of prefinished, vertically installed metal panels for accents on the facade. The developer confirmed that these panels would be either powder-coated or painted, ensuring a polished look.
The commission unanimously approved the motion to recommend the amendment, paving the way for the new store's construction. Additionally, discussions touched on future developments in the area, with a mention of a currently zoned multifamily property awaiting plans from its developer.
This decision marks a significant step in Decatur's commercial growth, promising to bring a fresh and appealing option to local residents.
